Profile Of Professor Akwasi Asabere - Ameyaw
Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw was born on December 8, 1956. He is married with four children and hails from Buoyem-Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana.
Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw had his basic education at the Buoyem Methodist Primary and Middle Schools, Buoyem, near Techiman, Brong-Ahafo Region.

He had his secondary education at Prempeh College, Kumasi where he obtained his GCE O’ level and A’ level certificates in 1977 and 1979 respectively.
He also studied at the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast from where he obtained the degrees B. Sc (Hons.) Zoology, Diploma in Education (1988), M. Sc (Zoology) 1992 and PhD (1998). Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, an administrator and a science educator has more than twenty-six years of professional experience in teaching and research both at the secondary and tertiary levels of education in Ghana and West Africa. He began his career at the tertiary level as a Teaching/Research Assistant in the Department of Zoology, University of Cape Coast, between 1989 to 1990. He was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer, University College of Education of Winneba in 1995 and became a Lecturer 1996. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in the year 2000. By dint of hard work he became an Associate Professor and Full Professor of Science in 2004 and 2007 respectively in the University of Education, Winneba.
Until his appointment as Vice Chancellor in 2007, he held several positions in UCEW/UEW including the following: Pro Vice-Chancellor; Deputy Director, Centre for School and Community Science Technology (SACOST); Head, Department of Science Education; Head of Biology Section; Coordinator, Environmental Education; and member of over 45 Committees and Boards of UCEW/UEW out of which he has served as Chairman for 22 Committees and Boards.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw’s other engagements includes the following: Member, Board of Directors, African Virtual University, Kenya (2014 to Date); Chairman, Ghana Education Council (March 2014 to Date): Council Member, National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) (2011- 2013); Member, Education Sub-Committee of NCTE (2011- 2013); Chairman, Vice-Chancellors, Ghana (August, 2011 – July, 2012); Vice Chairman, Association of Ghana Universities; Member, Association of West Africa Universities (2011 to date); Member, Vice-Chancellors, Ghana (2007-to-date); Member, Board of Directors, Union Rural Bank (2009 – 2015); Member, Advisory Board, Techiman Traditional Council; Member, Professional Board, Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast (2006 – 2007) just to mention a few.
Prof Asabere-Ameyaw has participated and presented papers at numerous conferences, workshops and seminars. He has authored/co-authored 69 books/monographs, reports, conference papers, and journal articles on science and science education. He continues to provide editorial and reviewer services to a number of Journals and book publishers. He is a member of many professional bodies including: Ghana Science Association; West Africa Science Association; African Network for Research and Development in Science and Technology Education; South African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology (SAARMSTE): African Forum for Children’s Literacy in Science (AFCLIST); African Research Group on Education for Sustainable Development (ARGESD).
